This is Mica.  She came in for a session with her family, and then we made it into a session about her.  :)   She is so cute and has such a great sense of style.  We had a blast running around downtown to find neat locations to go with her fantastic outfits.  I want to know if they make this coat in my size, because it is SO perfect.  She is herself an award winning photographer and I hope that after this session, she’s thinking about doing some more with "the photography thing."  Mica, you and your family are welcome in my studio ANY time.  I had so much fun with you!

(Oh, and for my fellow photographers, since I know I will get emails: these are all window light or "natural" light with a boost from a reflector or fill flash outdoors, except for the last one, which was lit with a studio strobe.)

Another Ballerina

January 25, 2008

Here is Madeline, who some will recognize from the new opening slideshow on the website.  We had such a fun session!  She was in an Austin production of The Nutcracker around Christmastime and she has really been working on the classical posing.  I think she did a great job!  Thanks for coming in, Madeline!

More on the Urban Sessions

January 16, 2008

I was emailing with a client I loooooooove who was talking about how cool the urban sessions are for kids.  Her kids are a great age for this, because to me, these are like "Kindergarten Senior Portraits" in some ways.  Technically, they’re still Little Kids but they get a chance to show off what Big Kids they are becoming.  These sessions will be so much fun!  Why are we only offering them in February and March?  Weather and light.  By the time April rolls around, the light will have changed and we won’t have this golden winter glow anymore.  And then the heat and humidity show up at about the same time… after ten minutes outside, even the most good-natured kid has sticky hair and wants to go in where the air conditioning will make things more comfortable.  But in February and March, it should still be cool enough for them to wear great outfits and still be comfortable.

The Swoyer Family

January 15, 2008

Our Winter White sessions have been so much fun this year!  It’s been great to see some "Little Blessings" graduates that I hadn’t seen in awhile.  Michael is one of those kids.  We had so much fun with his family’s session, and it was so cool to see not only how he and his big sister have grown and changed, but also how they’ve stayed the same.  Thanks for letting me help you capture this moment in time!

Since we’re almost halfway through January, I figured it was time to announce our February special.  Our new "Urban Sessions" are a fun way to capture portraits of your kids that really showcase their personality.  We photograph these in downtown New Braunfels, in locations within walking distance from our studio.  These unique portraits are designed for kids who can stand alone, and we can do two outfit changes in our alloted time.  They will ONLY be available in February and March, and we have limited times that we can schedule these because we only do outdoor sessions during the "good light" windows of the day.  We are scheduling for these sessions RIGHT NOW so please call or email the studio to reserve your space.

Charlotte picked the wardrobe for this session, but if we had done a costume change, I would have had her favorite "crazy four year old" outfit: a tee shirt, jacket, one of our studio pettiskirts, leggings and boots.  Your child’s favorite "trendy" or "playing dress up" outfits are perfect for this urban setting.  You all know that I love to help you choose your wardrobe so I am open to any ideas you might have.

Here is Zachary, who is 4 months old.  He is so sweet and smiley and talkative!  What a wonderful kid.  I loved having you in the studio, Mr. Z!

Photographers Kids Revisited

January 11, 2008

My friend Stacia stopped by the studio today with her boys, and while we were talking business, the kids decided to play dress up.  Don’t they all look fabulous?  I love the choices they made.  :)   We couldn’t let the moment pass us buy without grabbing a quick shot of them in their winter gear.  Thanks, Stacia, for coming by!  I know you will love that backdrop!

Baby Ballerinas

January 7, 2008

Yes, we’re finally back in the studio!  We shot our first sessions of 2008 last week and, while time off is always nice, I’d much rather be shooting than cleaning and organizing the studio.  ;)   Please keep in mind that we are NEVER open on Sunday and Monday, so if you call trying to catch a real person instead of voice mail, we just aren’t in on those days.

Here are some long awaited samples of this year’s white set.  For non-ballet sessions, we move the barre out of the way.  I have some family images from last weekend that I’ll blog later this week.  But for now, here is Charlotte, my favorite studio sample model.  I had to bribe her with chocolate but we did finally get a chance to test out the Baby Ballerina barre after school today.

We are still booking sessions for this event!  January 8-18, as an add-on to our Winter White sessions.  Give me a call at the studio tomorrow or send an email to book your space — we have limited appointments left for the Winter White portraits.
